Happy Friday! I hope yall are enjoying this hot summer that we’ve been having, lol. I’ve never been a big fan of summer but watching Liam get all hyped up at the pool makes my heart so happy. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I’m out with Liam often. I’ve always been the type of person that is constantly on the go, I hate staying inside all day. Being home with a baby is NOT the same as being out with a baby. When you’re home, everything you need is within a few steps, but when you’re out, finding the right place to feed or change your baby becomes a challenge. I’ve learn a lot from all the outings with Liam to help him feel as comfortable outside as he is inside at home. So, today I’m sharing a couple of tips to help your baby survive the summer.
Hydrate your baby: Bring a bottle/sippy cup filled with ice water before you leave your house to keep your baby hydrated throughout the day. Babies should drink 50% more water when they are outside. (Some doctors don’t recommend babies drinking water until 6 months). If your baby is only formula/breastfeed, feed them more frequently.
Buy a portable fan: Babies overheat faster than adults, a small fan like this will help circulate the air and keep your baby cool. Having a fan that attaches to the car seat also helps give air if you don’t have vents in the backseat. Fan’s don’t blow cold air, they circulate the air around them, so don’t worry about your little one catching a cold.
Wear lightweight and loose clothing: dress your baby in something that you’d wear in the summer…something thin, loose, and sleeveless. Babies get so fussy in the heat so help them feel as comfortable as possible. I love shopping for cute seersucker & cotton onesies at Janie & Jack and at Gap, they have a great selection of clothes for all your minis.
Take frequent breaks: This is key when spending the day outside. Take short break in stores or in the shade to let your baby cool down and rest up. You can also give them any water or food that they might need during this time. As much as you would like to finish up your to do list in a span of 3 hours, nothing is more frustrating & sad than a tired, grumpy, hot, crying baby.
Use sunscreen: It’s funny because I take care of Liam’s skin 100x better than I take care of mine, lol. I use this Honest Sunscreen on Liam when I take him out of the house to help protect his fair baby skin. It’s very quick to spray on and doesn’t leave any residue or funny smells.
Choose the correct time: Try to avoid going out at heat peak times, 3:00 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. This way you don’t have to worry to much about overheating, uncomfortableness, sunburning, dehydration, or sweat rashes.
I hope these tips help you and your little ones!

Annie
